Which Side of the Adhesive Tab Sticks to the Wall?

Short Answer

For almost all Permastik adhesive hooks, mounting tapes and accessories, either side of the adhesive strip can be applied to the wall. Both sides use the same adhesive, so the orientation doesn't matter.

The exception is our Picture Hanging Strips, which have a designated wall side and frame side.

Most Permastik Adhesive Products

Our standard double-sided adhesive strips are the same on both sides, so you don't need to worry about which side faces the wall.

Simply:

• Clean the surface before installation using isopropyl alcohol (or a similar alcohol-based cleaner), then allow it to dry completely.
• Remove one release liner and apply the strip.
• Remove the second release liner and attach your product.
• Press firmly and follow the recommended curing time before use.

No matter which side is applied first, the adhesive performs the same.

Picture Hanging Strips

Picture Hanging Strips are designed differently and must be installed in the correct orientation.

• The green release liner (the strip with the small plastic hooks attached) is the wall side.
• The orange release liner is the picture frame side.
• Always install the strips with the pull tabs facing downwards so they can be removed correctly later.

Why Are Picture Hanging Strips Different?

Picture Hanging Strips use two interlocking fastening strips that click together to securely hold your picture frame.

Installing them in the correct orientation ensures the interlocking hooks engage correctly and the picture frame attaches securely to the wall.

For Picture Hanging Strips, always install both strips with the pull tabs pointing downwards. This keeps the interlocking hooks facing the correct direction and allows the tabs to remain accessible for removal.
